2008 European Green IT Award Winners.
Tier 1 won the 2008 European Green IT Award in the ‘Market leadership, driving change in Green IT’ category.
We saw off stiff competition from the likes of BT Global Services, Ricoh, AMD and Logicalis UK to win the award, which recognises the innovation and creativity that Tier 1 has developed as part of our end of life IT solution. A snapshot of some of our initiatives in our submission included:
- Recycled FA Cup - a perfect replica of the famous trophy made entirely from E.ON’s computer waste for use in environmental campaigns
- Green Garden - a peaceful space within our premises which contains benches, tables and a covered seating area made entirely from recycled plastics from PC and monitor casings and is replicated for some clients who wish to give something back to local communities
- PC Donation channel - The partnership with Digital Links has helped with the education of 75,000 children in Africa over the last 12 months
- Development of our sales channels and HM Government ‘List X’ accreditation in order to promote guaranteed secure re-use as opposed to recycling, particularly with a Police Force who had previously destroyed all hard drives
2008 Valpak Award Winners
The 2008 award in the category of ‘Best WEEE Partnership’ was won by Tier 1.
Valpak are the HM Government-appointed organisation that runs the national network of designated collection facilities for WEEE. The Valpak Awards 2008 are designed to recognise excellence in all areas of waste management, celebrating the organisations which have implemented the best and most innovative recycling and waste minimisation programmes. In recognition of the fact that the WEEE Regulations have now been in place for a year, a business to business award was included to reward achievements in this area.
Tier 1’s award recognised the work we do for UK private and public organisations, particularly in utilising our security processes to allow business and government to re-use their data-bearing end of life IT equipment. With a string of high profile data losses, Tier 1’s expertise allows data to be securely erased from hard drives as opposed to destroying them and thereby rendering a perfectly re-usable, working asset to the recycling bin.
