Tier 1 - UK WEEE Regulations

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive is now UK law.

The legislation aims to make producers pay for the collection, treatment and recovery of waste electrical equipment. The regulations also mean that suppliers of equipment like high street shops and internet retailers must allow consumers to return their waste equipment for safe disposal.

The amount of WEEE we throw away is increasing by around 5% each year, making it the fastest growing waste stream in the UK.

Much of the UK's WEEE ends up in landfill, where the lead and other toxins it contains can cause soil and water contamination. This can have a harmful effect on natural habitat, wildlife and also human health.

Many electrical items that we throw away can be repaired or recycled. Recycling items helps to save our natural finite resources and also reduces the environmental and health risks associated with sending electrical goods to landfill.

There is a requirement on each Member State under Article 2 of the Directive to minimise the disposal of WEEE as unsorted municipal waste and to achieve a high level of collection of WEEE for treatment, recovery and environmentally sound disposal.


This symbol is known as the 'Crossed out Wheelie Bin Symbol'. When this sumbol is marked on a product or packaging, it means that the product should not be disposed of with your general household waste. Only discard electrical/electronic items in separate collection schemes, which cater for the recovery and recycling of materials contained within. Your co-operation is vital to ensure the success of these schemes and for the protection of the environment.

As a distributor of new Electric and Electronic Equipment (EEE) Tier 1 have a part to play in reducing the amount of WEEE going into landfill sites; therefore we off a no-charge take-back.

OK - so I want to recycle my old goods what do I do?

We (Tier1) will accept your goods on a like for like basis on products you have purchased, for example purchase a TFT Monitor we will accept a TFT Monitor from you.
We will only accept items back with a Returns Number - please do not send anything in until we have sent you this via email.

• Company Name (if applicable)

• Tier1 Sales order (of new product purchased with us)
• Product Description (Desktop / Printer etc,)
• Date of Purchase
• Part Number of old product (found on the base of the unit)
• Serial Number of old product (found on the base of the unit)
